27 April is the national day of the Netherlands: King’s Day. Vietnam celebrates Hung King’s Day on 16 April this year. To give special attention to these festivities the Netherlands Embassy works in collaboration with Hanoi People’s Committee and Philips Lighting to turn the Hang Dau water tower into a beacon of light. From 16 till 27 April this innovative spotlight serves as proof of friendship and close cooperation between the two countries.
With this project the partners bring a fresh and innovative look to the cylindrical water tower and remind local people of the beauty of Hanoi’s historic landmark. The Hang Dau water tower is one of Hanoi’s oldest and was built in 1894. Dutch company Philips Lighting is a global leader in energy-efficient city lighting and uses state-of-the-art technology to bring a colorful touch to Hanoi.
Themed “Vietnam-Holland: Partners in water” the spotlight reflects the strong partnership on climate change and water management. The Netherlands actively supports Vietnam in the implementation of the Mekong Delta Plan which provides a long-term vision for the sustainable development of this crucial region.
The lighting of the water tower is part of the “Tomorrow is Green” campaign initiated by the Embassy and Consulate General of the Netherlands in Vietnam. The campaign calls for joint solutions for a sustainable and prosperous future.
